Competition Team

The Tremaine Dance Convention is coming to Boston!   All ABDC dancers are welcome to attend.

The event is held at the Boston Sheraton Hotel on February 13th and 14th.   There are workshops both days, approximately 8:30-5, and the competition will be at 6:30 on Saturday, February 13th.    The ABDC dances participating are Chicago, Proud Mary, Kiss From A Rose, 5 Guys Named Moe, and Flowers in My Hair.   The entry fee is $27- per routine.

Tuition for the convention is $180- for those in the Senior Room, and $155- for those in the Junior Room.   Anyone 11-14 also has the option to dance in the Teen Room for $180-, but you need to contact Jackie to set that up before 1/8.

There are hotel rooms available if parents are interested in staying overnight with their dancer and a few others.   To reserve your hotel room, call the Sheraton at 617 236 2000.

With the exception of Carly, all Competition Team Dancers will be registered on 1/8.   If your comp team dancer is NOT going to attend for any reason, please email Jackie and let her know before that date.   Payment is due to Gary Samperi by the end of January, and can be submitted to Danielle or Jackie at the studio.   Please do not send Comp Team payments to our PO Box.

Any ABDC dancer interested in going that is not in Competition Team, let Jackie know to get registered!

Congratulations to all of our dancers on a great performance at Dance America in November!   All five routines had a great debut at Brockton High.  Special congratulations to our two First Place winning dances: Fever and Proud Mary!

ABDC is offering three Competition Teams next year! Each of the three teams will learn at least three routines throughout the year, with an emphasis on blend and precision, to be performed at various competitions in Massachusetts. There is the possibility of additional community performances, as well as a production number that includes all three teams. To be a part of our rapidly growing competition team program, a student must be enrolled in a ballet, tap, and jazz class, as well as tech class.

Tech classes are offered at half the regular tuition rate, and students are required to attend 6 weeks of tech every 11 week term, although they are welcome to attend every week should they choose. These tech classes offer supplemental dance education at the weekly discretion of the instructor and will include presentations by visiting choreographers, stretch/strengthening opportunities, and general technique in all styles.

There is no costume deposit required for competition team, although costume costs may arise during the school year. Whenever possible, we will borrow costumes or reuse costumes from previous years.

Additional opportunities for company students who are interested in a solo or small group number are available over the summer. If your dancer is planning on registering for a Competition Team in the fall and is in a company class, and would like to be part of a solo or small group, email Jackie for details.

This is an exciting expansion for our studio, and we look forward to sharing it with you!

Informational sessions for parents will be held at Acton-Boxborough Dance Center on Thursday August 13th and Thursday August 20th at 6:30.     Jackie and Danielle will be there to give a brief overview of our philosophy and goals for the Competition Team program this year, as well as a projection of the time and costs involved for a student to effectively participate.   Parents of students already enrolled in competition team are welcome to attend, as well as those who have dancers that are interested, but need more details.   Hope to see you there!
